Event Description:

HOMES 252: Understanding the LEED for Homes Rating System

LEED for Homes is a green rating system for mixed-use multi-family buildings, as well as single-family homes. This course provides an introduction to the LEED for Homes rating system and delivery model. The course addresses the intents and requirements of prerequisites and key credits within the rating system while providing real world examples of strategies to meet them. The course also identifies the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders and a LEED for Homes project and is designed to prepare the professional to plan for key considerations and requirements for the LEED certification process.

Course Objectives

* Identify the types of projects which are eligible
* Recognize the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders in the LEED certification process.
* Recognize goals, intents, and requirements of prerequisites and key credits, and strategies to meet them
* Identify synergies between LEED credits
* Plan for key considerations and requirements for the LEED certification process

Faculty

Sam Pobst BO+M, BD+C, Homes and ID+C, LEED Faculty is the founder of Eco Metrics LLC, a national coalition of green building consultants with expertise in diverse areas of green building specialties, collaborating to advance sustainable building practices.  Sam has a degree in Construction Management from Michigan State University, with 40 years of experience in the commercial construction industry.  He was a founding member of the US Green Building Council West Michigan Chapter, serving two terms as Chair, and is Past Chair of the USGBC Heartland Regional Council.  He is a licensed contractor in the State of Michigan. Sam is the owner and designer of an on track for LEED Platinum & almost passive house home in Ada Michigan. Mike Holcomb, Green Rater who has tested over 1,000′s of homes claims “Sam’s house is the tightest I have ever tested.”
