Description:
The house was designed to take advantage of the site. The house utilizes a combination of the river views, the natural southwest breezes, and an orientation to the sun for natural day lighting and passive solar (90% of the glazing on the south-facing wall is completely shaded at noon on June 21st and unshaded at noon Dec 21st). The compact design was designed around the families needs. The family space is placed for the most natural lighting, breezes, and views. The bedrooms are in the cooler lower level and the north side of the house. Under the garage was utilized for storage of river kayaks, bikes, and shop area for working on them. The roof slopes were designed for future solar panels. All the interior coatings and adhesives were low VOC as defined by the LEED-H standards.
